Bootstrap Carousel Plugin

The Bootstrap Carousel Plugin enables the creation of image sliders. It is used to showcase multiple images in a slideshow format.

How to Create a Carousel

A basic Bootstrap carousel requires a few key elements:

Note: Carousels use CSS3 transition and animations to achieve the slide effect. This is the reason it is not supported properly in Internet Explorer 9 and earlier.

Explanation of Carousel Structure

The Outermost `<div>`

To work correctly, carousel controls need to be used with an id (in this case, id="carouselExample"). This <div> acts as the container for the carousel.

A CSS transition and animation effect are added by the .slide class, causing the items to slide when a new item is displayed. If you don’t want this effect, you can omit this class.

Bootstrap is instructed to start animating the carousel as soon as the page loads via the data-ride="carousel" element.

The “Indicators” Part

Indicators allow users to navigate between slides.

The “Wrapper for Slides” Part

The slides are wrapped inside a carousel-inner, with each slide as a carousel-item. The active class wants to be added to one of the slides. The carousel won’t be visible otherwise.

The “Left and Right Controls” Part

Navigation controls allow users to move between slides.

The above code helps the user to go back and forth between the slide, by adding “left” and “right” buttons.

The keywords "prev" and "next" can be entered into the data-slide attribute to change the slide’s position in relation to its current location.

Adding Captions to Slides

You can add captions to describe images in the carousel by adding <div class="carousel-caption"> within each <div class="carousel-item">.
