1. What is Azure Cloud Service?

Azure Cloud Services is an example of a platform as a service (PaaS) and designed to support applications that are scalable, reliable, and inexpensive to operate. In the same way that App Service is hosted on virtual machines (VMs), so too is Azure Cloud Services.

2. What is a cloud service role?

In Azure, a Cloud Service Role is a collection of managed, load-balanced, Platform-as-a-Service virtual machines that work together to perform common tasks.

3. What is scale a cloud service?

There are two ways to scale in the cloud: horizontally or vertically. When you scale horizontally, you are scaling out or in, which refers to the number of provisioned resources. When you scale vertically, it’s often called scaling up or down, which refers to the power and capacity of an individual resource.

4. What is a web role?

Web Role is a Cloud Service role in Azure that is configured and customized to run web applications developed on programming languages/technologies that are supported by Internet Information Services (IIS), such as ASP.NET, PHP, Windows Communication Foundation and Fast CGI.

5. What is a cloud service component?

The main physical components of cloud infrastructure are networking equipment, servers and data storage. Cloud infrastructure also includes a hardware abstraction layer that enables the virtualization of resources and helps to drive down costs through economies of scale.

6. What is Azure Diagnostics?

Azure Diagnostics really provides a great option for collecting additional details and data about the environment and resources and in the world of monitoring and troubleshooting, the more data the better.

7. What is Azure Service Level Agreement (SLA)?

A Service Level Agreement or SLA is a formal document that provides specific terms that state the level of service that will be provided to a customer. Microsoft’s Azure SLA defines three primary characteristics of Azure service, performance targets, uptime, and connectivity guarantees.

8. What is Cloud Computing?

Cloud computing is the delivery of different services through the Internet, including data storage, servers, databases, networking, and software. Cloud-based storage makes it possible to save files to a remote database and retrieve them on demand.

9. What is the Windows Azure Platform?

Microsoft’s Windows Azure platform is a group of cloud technologies, each providing a specific set of services to application developers.

10. What are the roles available in Windows Azure?

There are two types of Azure Cloud Services roles. The only difference between the two is how your role is hosted on the VMs: Web role: Automatically deploys and hosts your app through IIS. Worker role: Does not use IIS, and runs your app standalone.

11. What are the advantages of cloud computing?

With cloud computing, companies can reduce the size of their own data centers — or eliminate their data center footprint altogether. The reduction of the numbers of servers, the software cost, and the number of staff can significantly reduce IT costs without impacting an organization’s IT capabilities.

12. Explain the different deployment model of the cloud?

There are four cloud deployment models: public, private, community, and hybrid. Each deployment model is defined according to where the infrastructure for the environment is located.

14. Explain the Window Azure platform?

Windows Azure is a cloud computing platform developed by Microsoft that can be used to build and host online Web applications through Microsoft data centers. Management of the scalable Web applications is also performed at Microsoft’s data centers.

16. What is meant by table storage?

Azure Table Storage is a scalable, NoSQL, key-value data storage system that can be used to store large amounts of data in the cloud. This storage offering has a schemaless design, and each table has rows that are composed of key-value pairs.

17. Discuss the different database types in SQL Azure?

Azure offers a choice of fully managed relational, NoSQL, and in-memory databases, spanning proprietary and open-source engines, to fit the needs of modern app developers. Infrastructure management—including scalability, availability, and security—is automated, saving you time and money.

18. What is table storage in Windows Azure?

Windows Azure Tables are intended for the storage of large amounts of schemaless data. Tables are just containers of rows of data.
